Our community partners, like The Ritz-Carlton, Waikiki Beach, play a vital role in enabling us to continue serving those facing barriers to employment by providing them with opportunities to acquire hard and soft skills and support throughout their journeys.
In March 2021, the Spa at The Ritz-Carlton was reopening after being closed for a year due to the pandemic. Touch A Heart Executive Director Robin Kumabe and the resort's Director of Sales and Marketing Sandy Narvaez are former colleagues and reconnected to discuss how they could bring more awareness to Touch A Heart. Sandy and Jamie Goya, Lead Therapist at the Spa, then worked together on the first order of Baker's Heart cookies to be offered as a single-serve, pre-wrapped treat to guests after their spa service.
"Not only did we love the flavor and uniqueness of the cookies, we loved how they helped us to continue to tell the story of our Spa and allow us to draw our guests into supporting our community," said Jennifer Koon, Spa and Recreation Director. "The feedback was so positive from our guests; they loved the flavors and were thrilled to support an organization creating meaning for others."
The Spa's retail component is another way The Ritz-Carlton supports the local community. Guests can find an assortment of products from Hawaii-based small businesses, including select varieties of Baker's Heart cookies. Through the end of June, kamaaina guests who enjoy a spa treatment will receive a box of coconut and mac nut cookies as an exclusive offer combined with 15% off spa services. Additionally, our cookies are also part of the cabana rental amenities.
"Ritz-Carlton has always had a focus on the environment and social responsibility, which is known as our Community Footprints program, and we take part in initiatives that align with issues that are important to the community, as well as achieving global sustainable development goals," Jennifer explained. "We're so proud and thankful to be a part of Touch A Heart’s mission. We know the incredible impact their efforts are making on the community by transforming the lives of individuals through their healing and nurturing programs."
