Building Mindsets for Success
At Touch A Heart, we believe preparing people for success means going beyond technical skills—it also means developing the mindset, confidence, and resilience needed to thrive in the workplace.
This spring, we shared our Growth Mindset curriculum with two important audiences: participants in the Building Industry Association of Hawaiʻi's (BIA Hawaiʻi) inaugural Waimānalo Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) cohort and leaders through our new Building Equity-Ready Workplaces employer workshop series.
Our culturally grounded, trauma-informed curriculum helps participants build self-awareness, resilience, communication skills, and a stronger sense of purpose. Through guided discussions, experiential activities, and mentorship, participants develop the personal and professional skills needed for long-term success.
For the PACT cohort, the curriculum complemented hands-on construction training by strengthening the workplace skills employers consistently value. Meanwhile, the employer series equipped leaders with tools to foster more inclusive workplace cultures. "We intentionally designed these two opportunities to complement one another by preparing both future employees and the employers who may hire and support them," shared LorMona Meredith of Mālama Mai Consulting, our community partner. "By bringing both groups into the conversation, we helped bridge the gap between workforce preparation and workplace readiness."
Approximately 20 leaders from 12 organizations participated in the employer workshops, while the spring PACT cohort graduated 11 participants. Survey results showed meaningful growth in confidence, accountability, communication, teamwork, resilience, and a shift from simply getting a job to building a successful career. Building on this momentum, we continued our partnership with BIA Hawaiʻi for its summer PACT cohort, which recently graduated, and look forward to piloting additional projects this fall.
