Meet Volunteers Steven and Dwight

At Touch A Heart, we're blessed to have the support of a diverse group of volunteers. Their help is an integral part of our programming and mission. In this issue, we'd like to introduce you to two of our volunteers, Steven and Dwight. Steven learned about Touch A Heart through friends at Faith Christian Church. He was drawn to the idea of helping people get their Kupuna and Family Meals and began making deliveries in November 2020. When Steven injured his knee earlier this year, he got his friend Dwight involved, and together, they now tag team deliveries to the Salt Lake/Moanalua area. The two have known each other since the sixth grade. Steven's favorite thing about volunteering is "seeing the recipients appreciating getting their meals" and he said the experience has made him "more joyful." He also shared, "In blessing others, it has blessed me back more than I know." Meanwhile, Dwight is happy to be contributing to the community and encourages others to give volunteering a try. Our delivery service is only made possible through volunteers. It has been a crucial way for our most vulnerable community members to get their meals, especially throughout the early stages of the pandemic when they were extra cautious about leaving their homes. The customers that Steven and Dwight deliver to are mostly women (80%) and the average age is 75. Some are widows who live alone or with their children. Recipients include a grandmother; mother and son; and a woman who always buys two meal sets each week to give away. We appreciate Steven, Dwight, and all of our other volunteers who selflessly give their time to serve others. Being a small nonprofit organization, we rely on volunteer support to continue and grow our operations. We hope Steven and Dwight will inspire others to get involved so we can transform even more lives together.
