A Celebration of Growth
We recently honored our newest graduates from our foodservice vocational training program—Gail, Krista, Moses, Keolamau, and Jayson. The graduation ceremony at Kalihi Union Church was a celebration of the growth and accomplishments of each graduate.

During the ceremony, the cohort reflected on their journey. Gail shared that "Touch A Heart and Dynamic Healing Center help a person develop more responsibility [and] accountability." Keolamau spoke about his early struggles with attendance and punctuality, while expressing gratitude for the patience and grace he received. Krista shared appreciation for "the opportunity to learn things, not only in the kitchen but about myself," while Moses thanked our ʻohana for their support. Jayson also expressed his appreciation for everyone's encouragement.

Throughout our eight-week program, the cohort participated in our Growth Mindset curriculum, which focuses on self-awareness and recognizes that lasting change begins with a single thought. Under the guidance of Chef-Trainer Curtis, they developed culinary knowledge and workplace readiness while successfully passing the Hawaiʻi Department of Health Food Handler Certification exam.

Over the years, our graduations have come to include many meaningful traditions, including a special performance and prayer by the preschool students of Kalihi Christian School and a lunch prepared by the graduates alongside our staff. We were also grateful to have graduates from our previous cohort in attendance, including Keawe, who is now employed with us as an apprentice, Malachi, and Hiʻilei, who took time off from work to share words of encouragement with the new graduates. Hiʻilei shared how proud she was of the cohort and reminded them to recognize how far they've come. Reflecting on her own experience, she said, "Touch A Heart is a blessing... they're very helpful with cooking and just being there for me all the time."

Mahalo to all whose support makes this work possible. We appreciate your belief in our mission and the importance of fair chances for all.

Please join us in congratulating Gail, Krista, Moses, Keolamau, and Jayson, and wishing them all the best in their next endeavors!
