A New Chapter for Andrew
After nearly three years with Touch A Heart, we recently bid a fond aloha to Andrew as he begins a new chapter at the new Thirty Eight seafood restaurant at Pier 38. Andrew first joined us as an intern in 2023 and, after graduating from our program, continued on as an apprentice—growing tremendously through his time with us.
At Thirty Eight, Andrew has stepped into dual roles as a prep cook and dishwasher, with plans to gradually increase his hours toward full-time status. Reflecting on the opportunity, he shared optimism about joining a young and growing company where he hopes to continue learning and advancing in the restaurant industry.
When asked about his most memorable experience at Touch A Heart, Andrew's answer was simple: "Every day." He reflected on the lessons, challenges, and support he received throughout his journey. "Each day I was working here, I was living life, learning a lot," he shared. "It taught me how to be more durable... accommodate the organization's needs."
Andrew also spoke about discovering his own strengths and limits over time. "I appreciate what I collected over the years here at Touch A Heart," he said, noting that the skills and experiences he gained have prepared him well for this next step. "I know I'll probably move up quick, if I apply myself and my skills."
Known for his energy and enthusiasm, Andrew hopes to bring those same qualities into his new workplace. Looking ahead, he shared goals of continuing to learn the restaurant business, growing within the company, and building a stable future for himself.
With his departure, Andrew offered this message to current and future interns: "Treat Touch A Heart as a good opportunity... if you put in your time... maybe one of these days you might get a break."
While we'll miss Andrew, we're proud of his growth and excited to see where this journey takes him next. In his own words, "Touch A Heart will always have a place in my mind and my heart, everywhere I go."
