Building for the Future
This summer, we also welcomed Tommy L. through Redefine Alliance's network of consultants, where he provided remote technical assistance to support Baker's Heart's continued growth. A former Farber Fellow and Master of Public Health graduate from Yale University, Tommy brought experience in data analytics and operations, along with a passion for helping employment social enterprises thrive.
Working closely with our team, Tommy focused on projects behind the scenes, including inventory management, retail shipping, subscriptions, and Shopify reporting. His work has helped strengthen the systems that support Baker's Heart's day-to-day operations while preparing us for future growth.
"Expanding shipping capabilities gives Touch A Heart a truly national reach, opening doors to customers across the country," Tommy shared. "As operations grow, accessing mainland markets while continually refining backend processes will be essential to sustainable scaling."
Coming from the mainland, Tommy was also inspired by what makes Baker's Heart unique. "Touch A Heart really exemplifies the employment social enterprise model—delivering an excellent product at a great price while creating economic opportunity for members of the Oʻahu community," he said.
One of his favorite experiences was working alongside our ʻohana to implement a new inventory system. "I feel fortunate to have worked with a team that comes up with innovative solutions to complex problems while serving a great purpose," he reflected.
Looking ahead, Tommy hopes to continue helping purpose-driven businesses expand their impact. "This experience has reinforced my belief that employment social enterprises are a foundational part of communities," he shared. "I thoroughly enjoy solving operational problems that ultimately serve a greater mission."
Mahalo, Tommy, for sharing your passion and expertise with us. Your contributions will continue supporting our growth and mission for years to come.
