New Journeys, Bright Futures
Every cohort of our foodservice vocational training program begins with people taking a courageous step toward growth, confidence, and new opportunities. This month, we're excited to welcome our new interns Aaliyah, Hinano, and Tiffany.
Designed for individuals facing barriers to employment, our eight-week program combines hands-on culinary training with life and workplace skills, Growth Mindset training, Hawaiʻi Department of Health Food Handler Certification, résumé and interview preparation, guest speakers, field trips, and job placement support. More importantly, Touch A Heart is a supportive and nurturing community where people can build confidence while preparing for employment opportunities.
Aaliyah brings a passion for cooking and baking and is looking forward to learning new skills while continuing to grow personally and professionally. When asked who she hopes to become, she shared, "I want to become someone others look up to and feel inspired by."
Hinano first learned about Touch A Heart through his probation officer and says his faith inspired him to join the program. He's looking forward to the fellowship, learning how to serve others, and growing closer to God. "I'm excited to be a part of this program," he said.
Rounding out the group is Tiffany, who joined our program alongside her daughter, Aaliyah, making this the first time we've welcomed a mother and daughter into the same cohort. After a family member first reached out to ask about our program for Aaliyah, Tiffany became interested and ultimately decided to begin the journey herself. She hopes to gain confidence, learn new skills, and continue helping others. "I want to trust and believe in myself," she shared.
Although each participant's story is unique, they all share a common desire to learn, grow, and create brighter futures for themselves and their families. We're honored to walk alongside them as they discover new possibilities and continue becoming the people they aspire to be.
