Leading With Purpose
April is National Volunteer Month! We're grateful for all who selflessly share their time and talent with us, including our board of directors. This week, we're spotlighting Board President Dante.
Dante first connected with us over 10 years ago through his company's community service efforts. What deepened his commitment, however, was a powerful moment at one of our events. Recalling a graduate's testimony, he shared, "This was the statement that made Touch A Heart a reality and not just another organization."
As Board President, Dante sees his role as one that consists of support and stewardship. "[Executive Director] Robin and [Director of Operations & Training Colin] have the vision and purpose. My role is to support that vision and continue praying that more hearts are transformed," he said. Dante also connects personally with each new cohort of our food service vocational training internship program, offering encouragement and words of wisdom as they begin their journeys.
Despite the demands of running his own business, Dante views his service as both a blessing and an honor. For him, volunteering is rooted in faith and purpose—"serving others and being obedient to God's purpose.
One of Dante's most impactful experiences was attending a federal court sentencing hearing. "It brought me to the reality of how the court system works," he shared. "It also emphasized the importance of Touch A Heart, where people now have other options compared to their past." He also noted that our impact extends far beyond job training, offering support before, during, and after reentry into the community.
Dante finds inspiration in the transformations he witnesses at our graduations. "I'm humbled each time. Touch A Heart shows love for others in a nonjudgemental way," he said.
Looking ahead, Dante is encouraged by how we've grown and evolved. With the support of partners like Kalihi Union Church and the growth of ʻOhana Meals and Baker's Heart, he sees continued opportunity "to touch more hearts and lives."
