Using Your Gifts for Good
As we continue to celebrate National Volunteer Month, we're honored to recognize Jovan, a software engineer who generously volunteers his time and expertise to support Touch A Heart behind the scenes.
Originally from San Diego, Jovan first connected with Touch A Heart through his work at EY (previously known as Ernst & Young). "I was nudged by a coworker... to help Touch A Heart assess their current e- commerce capabilities," he shared. Through that experience, the mission quickly became personal. "I have family members impacted by the penal system. I've seen firsthand how tough... it is to navigate," Jovan added.
Even after moving on from EY, Jovan chose to stay involved with our organization. "In a world that grows more expensive by the day, the good that Touch A Heart does is very valuable," he said. "Providing food and opportunity for those in need is an important mission that should be supported." He also pointed to our team as a source of inspiration, calling attention to "the hope and kindness that the Touch A Heart staff puts into their work."
Jovan's contributions have played a key role in strengthening our digital presence. He initially helped migrate our web store to a new platform and has since continued to support with custom code that cover gaps in functionality and assisting with workflow decisions.
For Jovan, the impact of his work is what makes it meaningful. "It's a great feeling to know that I'm helping make their (Touch A Heart's) mission... easier," he said. "Indirectly helping others through my efforts... is very fulfilling."
To others who may be interested in donating their professional skills and expertise, Jovan offers simple but powerful encouragement: "A minimal investment of time and energy could have a big impact... It's completely free to volunteer, and even a small donation can mean the world to someone in need."
